Slimserver is now Squeezeboxserver and you only need it on one machine. A NAS is a network attached storage (disk) drive. The drive is connected like a computer rather than by a USB or other cable. It is available whenever it is turned-on rather than "sharing" a USB drive which requires the attached PC to be turned-on.
