Only if that separate harddrive is a NAS (which is like a mini-computer combined with a harddrive) and the NAS is running it's own copy of SqueezeboxServer. There are NAS units that do this (ReadyNAS, etc.). Bottom line, to stream music, there must be something ON that is running the SbS software.
