It sounds like your remote is knackered to me. My SB2 remote has died also - it still generates IR light, but the SB2 does not do anything when you press a button.
Quite why a few buttons wouldn't work is anyones guess. You could confirm if it is still generating IR light. Just point a digital camera at the IR LED and press some buttons. It'll be obvious if it's emitting IR.
