I had a lengthy conversation in the german forum. And my understanding now is that IRBlaster requires volume commands like "volume +5" rather than "volume = 45"
So if activated, SlimCtrl sends +/- volume commands. The volume slider is then replaced by volume up/down buttons. Most people set the SqueezeCener volume to 100%. This setting is (AFAIK) left as-is by the IRBlaster plugin.
