There's an option in the NNTP gateway to check for an already running job
("is_running"). Some kind soul managed to comment out the corresponding code in
the script itself... I'm sure it was in good intent (though not fully thought
out) ;-).

I'm not sure the above fixed it. But with all the trials and errors we've gone
through during the past week, the duplication seems to have gone. Let's keep
fingers crossed. I've learned a few things on the way and will hopefully be
able to intervene faster in the future.
