I have used the following line in custom-convert.conf to transcode mp3
streams that will not otherwise play on my old SLIMP3:
mp3 mp3 slimp3 *
[lame] --mp3input --resample 44100 --silent -q $QUALITY$ --abr
$BITRATE$ $FILE$ -
Also, do you have lame installed correctly ?
