Ah, I found it. The fade can be disabled by commenting out everything in the function _sleepStartFade in Slim/Control/Commands.pm.
Unfortunately there is a slight problem: it doesn't stop precisely when the track ends, but plays a second or so of the next track first. At least in SqueezePlay.
