I would recommend an online service. Using USB disks or DVDs requires manual work, and to be entirely safe with that solution, you should keep the backup set outside you own house. Online solutions like Mozy, Carbonite, CrashPlan and Keepit all have a flatrate subscription. The software required is easy to setup, and it almost work as "Set it and forget it". I currently use Mozy but is thinking of switching to CrashPlan as they have a Linux client. But Mozy absolutly works and is not that expensive.
