Hi all, I really appreciate all the replies to my message. But regardless of whether I use apt-get or aptitude, and safe-upgrade or upgrade or dist-upgrade, I get these messages about "Invalid argument" etc. Even on a clean install.
My Ubuntu install is running under Hyper-V, so I'm absolutely confident that there's no disk problem etc. I've used Hyper-V for a couple of years, with 9.04, 9.10 and now 10.04, and this is the first time I've ever encountered any problems.
