There's an extension available for the iPad called FullForce, it will scale up iPhone apps much much better than the default 2x. It's only available if you jailbrake your iPad which is very simple and doesn't require any skills whatsoever. Well, except a bit of googling to find the download page but with a bit of Spirit you'll find it...
