        around, you'll see that "convert .aa to .mp3" will send you in
        100 not-particularly-fruitful directions.  

        There exist a few solutions for converting your Audible files to
        something more portable (mp3, for example).  In addition to
        simply using your soundcard to (re)record the files (i.e., play
        and record at the same time), there are a few software tools
        that will convert for you.  Many of them, though, have
        "disappeared" on-line.

        In my experience, the one that works best is Goldwave
        (goldwave.com).  Presuming you actually "own" the files (you
        have your audible.com name and password), you can open the
        files in Goldwave and then save them in a wide variety of
        formats.  Works like a charm.
