SBS defines "New music" by the time/date stamp on the files. Changing the tags may or may not update the datestamp on the files -- on all good tagging programs this is a user-configurable option, because some people like to have the "file modified" time updated with tag changes and others don't.
If you haven't knowingly edited your tags, you should look at what other programs you have (iTunes, WMP, etc.) may have modified your files.
