I have 2 players, a SqueezeBox-Classic and a Transporter. If I set the
SqueezeBox-Classic to be Now Playing in iPeng 1.2.5, close the app,
wait a few minutes, then re-open the app I get "Your Player Was Not
Found" in iPeng. After a few moments it re-establishes the connection
but it opens the Transporter in the Now Playing, but it also shows the
playlist from the SqueezeBox-Classic. At that point I can't operate
either the Transporter or the SqueezeBox. (NOTE: if I close iPeng and
re-open immediately rather than wait a few minutes, it works fine, i.e.
the SqueezeBox shows up in Now Playing and works as expected).

On the other hand, if I have the Transporter in the Now Playing, and I
close, wait a few minutes and re-open iPeng, iPeng shows "Your Player
Was Not Found" and then a few moments later opens the Transporter in
Now Playing.

So no matter which player I had originally showing in Now Playing,
iPeng re-opens to the Transporter (if I wait a few minutes before
re-opening iPeng).

BUT: if I have the SqueezeBox in Now Playing and I close iPeng, and
then I go to the iOS4 Fast App Switcher and KILL iPeng altogether, and
re-open iPeng, then in this case the SqueezeBox shows up in Now Playing
and it works great.

I never experienced this problem before when I was running iPeng 1.2.1
on my iPhone4 and iOS4. It only started to occur when I upgraded to
iPeng 1.2.5.

Might something be occuring with the way iPeng 1.2.5 is "saving state"
under the fast app switching capabilities of iOS4?
