Lindy Hop is a dance style that evolved during the 1920s in Harlem, New
York. This dance form fits in the genre of swing dance. It also happens
to be one of the many partner dances that are still popular. The steps
of this dance style were taken from the Tap and Charleston. This was
the first dance form that broke all race barriers between the whites
and blacks. Spontaneity and wildness is the key features of this dance
form.

*'Lindy Hop Dance NYC' (http://www.youshouldbedancing.net/)* is another
name given to New York’s very own swing dance. The Savoy Ballroom in New
York City gave this dance the perfect ground for these dancers to
showcase their talent. This ballroom went on to become the ruler of
swing. It also perfected this dance form in a great way by fine tuning
it steps. The bouncer of the Savoy Ballroom, Herbert White went on to
form a group “Whitey’s Lindy Hoppers”, which consisted of the best
Lindy Hop dancers who performed at the ballroom. This troupe went on to
perform this beautiful dance in movies such as Hellzapoppin and A Day at
the Races.

This dance was also performed on the beats of Swing music. Every
passing day, new steps were introduced depending on the changing
fashion. The Jitterbug is the ideal example of this reinvention. This
dance is so close to the Lindy dance style that it might be really
difficult to differentiate between both the styles. Although, names
changed over the years, but, the Lindy Hop is still known to be the
Savoy style of dance.
