Like garym I used to use my ReadyNAS Duo as my SB server. However,
having recognised how slow it was and consequently how many excellent
plugins I wasn't able to use properly I decided to take a different
approach.

I now still use my readynas as my network storage but I have a new Mac
Mini which is on 24/7 as a media server for SBS and PS3 Media Server
plus a few other bits and bobs. The mac mini runs MusicIP as well and
I'm more than happy with the set-up now.

When I bought the readynas (a good 3 years ago now I think) I didn't
know about squeezeboxes and was using it to share files between PCs and
for XBMC too. It didn't need to be smart/fast and I wasn't really aware
of the potential for these sorts of things. I just had the point of
view that if I was going to have something on 24/7 I didn't want it to
be a big power hungry PC so I went for the readynas.

Now with loads of efficient options like the vortex box, eeepc, aspire
revos, mac minis etc I think I would go a different route and have one
of these low energy computers on 24/7 with extra storage attached as
required for space/backup. You can share folders, printers etc no
problem and they have plenty of grunt in reserve for when you need
it...

I'm still happy with my readynas as it has worked really well for me up
to this point but like I say, I think times have moved on a bit...
