The major issue is not whether DHCP is good.

Problems arise if more than one DHCP "server" lurks on your
(intra)network.

Most will agree that it's a good idea to assign your squeezeboxserver
machine to a static or "not automatic" address. This means all your
"players" will always find the tunes, regardless of what order things
are turned-on-off-on-off.

That said, DHCP is wonderful in that it's automatic BUT make sure all
your  REGULAR/USUAL computers and etc. are turned-on and working (can
you say "completely" test?) before adding "ANY" new device. This
includes any strange laptop that might connect... Life can be simple.
