My understanding is: 1. Linux based players (Radio and Touch) do native decoding of the 256kbit/s stream. 2a. Older ip3k based players don't do native decoding of any AAC format at any bitrate. 2b. Transcoding for ip3k players is done by the local server using faad. 2c. faad is not capable of transcoding the 256kbit/s stream (although the native AAC decoder in the Linux players decode the 256kbit/s stream) 2d. For server transcoding using faad, a 96kbit/s stream is used.
