Bumping this old thread since I am having the same problem with latest version of Squeezebox Server.
When running synchronized with a SB3 my Boom suddenly goes mute. The Now Playing screen is still there but no sound. To get it working again I need to go into settings and select synchronize again. Then it starts to play Both players are wireless with >85% connection strength. I´ve only had this issue with the Boom.
