It does change the behaviour a bit in some places within some Squeezebox player
UI's. eg. It also means it will list both the artist and album artist in song
info, which in most cases will be the same. It also means you get "track
artists" instead of "artists", and this may affect some display and navigation
actions. Might not be important to you - try it and see, I guess.

It's also not necessary for iTunes. I used to use WMP and WinAmp, about 10
years ago, and haven't looked back since. I'd be suprised if album artist was
a necessity for those apps too.

True - I know FooBar uses TXXX ALBUM ARTIST, and SBS supports both TXXX ALBUM
ARTIST and TXXX ALBUMARTIST. I think there are other apps that support
ALBUMARTIST, seeing that this is what SBS supported first (MusicBrainz maybe?).

However, if you use Vorbis comments (eg. for FLAC files), then ALBUM ARTIST and
ALBUMARTIST are more common. SBS treats id3 custom tags like Vorbis tags.
