My cable is pretty old (might be Cat3, not sure), but when using a laptop and limiting the connection to 10mbps I get a good and reliable link. With sb2, I complete the ethernet setup process (I'm assuming the negotiated speed is 100), get an IP, then it starts complaining about the ethernet connection. Sounds exactly as your comment about not being able to sustain the negotiated speed. That sb2 firmware upgrade with a speed limit option could just solve the problem for me once and for good...
