to everyone, thx for your help/comments! unfortunately i had to leave my parents house but i will try all this next time i am there. i will let you know how this turns out... i think setting a static IP is the right thing to do, and its been so long since i messed with my SB2 that i forgot thats how i set that up, and its been 100% rock solid.
