I've tried to get Squeezeplay to output audio via USB but with little luck. There's a bug report filed but it has yet to be resolved/assigned. That's cool - I know these things take time.
In the light of this, I have a simple question (I hope): Is there a software player (SB emulator?) that will show up as "controllable" via Squeezebox Server that can output audio via USB *and* play MP3s as gapless? I'm using OS X 10.6.7.
