I can remember a small insight in what convinced me: * I was introduced to the Squeezebox family 'first' (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Primacy_effect#Primacy_effect). That has an effect. * I know networking well enough to want my music system to utilize my existing network instead of competing with it. AFAIU, Sonos uses the 2.4 GHz band. With SB, I can either use Ethernet (I don't even know if Sonos supports wired networking), or my existing 802.11 network which I know how to troubleshoot. * I learned that SBS was open source (and that the Controller even got a geek port). That was when I made the decision to go for SB. So I'm not the average user, but then again, who is?
