I've just been doing some testing of this and here are some
conclusions:

1) If you convert the multichannel DVD-Audio to FLAC, you Touch will
only play the left and right channels. All other channels are ignored
(try playing a channel identification track [ you know: Front Left,
Center, Front Right, Surround Right, Surround Left, Subwoofer ] and
you'll clearly hear this.

2) If you convert to WMA Lossless it will play some tracks, but also
seems to die on other tracks (limited testing, but the first MC track I
tried failed). If you do get a track to play, it will output sound for
all of the source channels. However, the output is stereo only, so you
won't get back any surround effects, even if you enable Dolby PL-IIx
decoding. If they had taken the C, SR, SL channels and mixed them into
FR and FL using the PL-IIx encoding matrix, most mutilchannel receivers
would do a fair job of resurecting the original multichannel mix. But at
least you do get output from all 6 source channels (if it works).

Anyone else interested in multichannel?

Mike
