1. okay. Surprise surprise (not sure why you guessed otherwise though), I'm using winxp on both ends. So I generated and copied the moose.moo into the same dir as the moose.exe executable on my remote machine. Initially, still no connection. GUI displayed "An operation was attempted on something that is not a socket."
Turns out it was a simple problem: I forgot to set up putty to ssh tunnel port 9090. 2. The app would be a bit more sensible to me if the Now Playing screen were always on, and the track selector were toggled on/off, rather than the way it works now (pretty much the opposite).
