If you use an electromagnet to put the iPad into stand-by mode, you can interupt the magnet by use of a timer every 9:50 minutes (the electromagnet can hide in the iPad stand). This also would enable you to remotely switch on/off the iPad ;) Belkin & Co. should come up with a stand with built in electromagnets which can be actuated by either timer or remote.
