Why on earth would you look for an inferior alternative? Squeezebox is a one of a kind. It is for this reason you even have to ask such a question in the first place.
It is also for that reason that I think the future is bright. How could you think otherwise? Simply because they are not into planned obsolescence and a continual cycle of change-for-the-sake-of-change and "spinning wheels without traction"?
