When the download stream is not fast enough the second buffer will never fill, as the bytes are consumed much faster than can be downloaded. Have you enabled bitrate limiting for the SqueezePlayer player, so that maybe your QNAP is trying to transcode all the time? Are you sure you tried with mp3s (as ALACs will definitely get transcoded which might not be fast enough on QNAP).
