The scenario I am envisaging is the typical party: people come over, drink, get bored of your finely selected music and then say, let me DJ for a while. They basically have a stock iPhone. If I were in the Apple ecosystem, I'd just have an Apple router plugged into my stereo. But I sometimes want to be able to play the music off the said laptop. I don't want to run anything extra on the laptops (I guess it's ok if there is a DLNA media library being served by them). Currently (since it's a Windows network) all the music is accessible to every other machine as part of the Homegroup, so file sharing between the server and these machines is enabled. It would be nice to be able to somehow easily play that music, even if it did require a scan at some point before, but not every time the machine is connected (and it's ok if the library is then somewhat out of date). I think I would actually prefer to drill down to the music on the laptops separately, rather than have everything integrated together, or at least to ahve that option.
