I can only agree with aubuti. iPod Touch 3G is perfectly fine. BUT: you have to be careful, there are no 3rg Generation models with 8 GB, I believe, they only come in 32 an 64 GB variants, 8GB is only for 2nd and 4th Gen. I do NOT recommend the 2ng Gen Models anymore. They work but are slower and I might discontinue support for them end of this year or so, depending on how iOS development goes on.
