I use the XAP plugin which does UDP broadcasts from the Squeeze Server so that any system listening on the LAN can react to what the Squeeze server is doing. There are messages for volume state, mute state, time remaining on the track, song changes, cover art etc. I just use the ones for Power and volume.
Since my Theater which is also my High End Audio listening room is controlled by a PC (which is controlled by the iPad and Pronto's) it was logical to have the PC control the Audio processor based on XAP sequences. It was very nice using the slider to be able to use a gesture and listen to the volume smoothly change in real time to the desired value.
