I found that if I use the "light" skin then I was able to add songs fine. But the default and handheld still gave me troubles..
You didn't specify the slimserver version you're using. 6.5 is cutting edge, and problems are to be expected as there are major works on the skins going on.
Go for the 6.2.x branch if you want stable behaviour.
Do most people use firefox here?
I doubt it as the Windows executable will launch IE. I'm using Opera almost exclusively.
When I connect the player to the server, the web page (on the top right hand corner) shows the different IP addresses (with the player) connected to the server in a dropdown menu. I use this dropdown menu to switch to the playlist of different players.
This is correct. Did you disable javascript by chance? Or do you use some security package (popup blocker, privacy protector or whatever it might be called) which does not like the javascript's window reload mechanisms?

You're sure it does not add? Did you check the "other" player that's still displayed for the left panel? This would have interesting effects waking up your girlfriend in the sleeping room while you are testing this in the living room :-)
