Certainly has potential. I'd design it with analogue and S/PDIF outputs in every unit, then have a 1Tb disk or T-Amp as optional modules for folks who want in-build storage or amp. Of course Logitech could have done this 2 years ago, and with a proven s/w stack but they chose to flush Squeezebox.
