How do you use your Squeezebox? Do you run your own server or do you use
MySqueezebox.com or both?

To me, this sounds like your Squeezebox is unconnected when you start so
iPeng can't see it (only players which are also connected to a server
can actually be used). Usually, the player should then show up in iPeng
under "unconnected players" and you can connect it by tapping it. Could
you check for that in the list of players that you can bring down from
the top of the screen?
Sometimes this doesn't work because the Squeezebox doesn't realize it's
unconnected, maybe the controller simply always force-connects the last
known player to the last known server or something like that.

Another reason could be that your server is sleeping and needs to be
woken up through WOL. IPeng can do that, too, but you have to enable it
manually, using the server settings (tap the blue ">" arrow behind
the server name)

And the last Aston I could think of is that your player was switched to
MySqueezebox.com and that iPeng isn't registered for that so can't see
your player on MySB. Unlike the Squeezeboxes themselves, iPeng doesn't
force you to register with MySB, a lot of users with own servers don't
want that.
To register with MySB, just tap it under "Music Sources" in the player
list. If it doesn't immediately ask for credentials after switching,
please tap the blue ">" behind "MySqueezebox.com" (same as for WOL
above), there's currently a registration problem with MySB due to which
iPeng can't always determine whether it's resisted or not.
