Seems like a common open source tool for this task is TextCat (http://odur.let.rug.nl/~vannoord/TextCat/, one of the links I've posted above). On this site, there's also an interesting link list. Looks like TextCat performs statistical analysis, so it could hardly be accurate from one or two words.
