The data sheet was indeed for the display module used in SLIMP3 and
the non-graphics version of Squeezebox1. The datasheet was included
to document the protocol to the display controller built in to that
module. We got permission from Noritake to include them with our
software.
The graphic Squeezebox1 used a 280x16 display glass module from
Noritake with custom hardware and software developed by us to drive it.
Similarly, Squeezebox2/3 use a greyscale 320x32 display with a more
sophisticated hardware/software interface.
The data sheets for this glass aren't of much use unless you are
building hardware, so we never bothered to get permission to post them.

This is obviously low priority, but I was looking
at the Technical Information section in SlimServer
and the "Data sheet for the display hardware
(PDF)" is obviously outdated. I'd say it was for
the SliMP3. It's 2 X 40 and looking through
www.noritake-itron.com it appears to have been
superseded by the CU40025SCPB-W6A and CU40025SCPB-W6J.
The 320 X 24 X 2 display used in the Squeezebox
must be either the GU320X24x2-300 or the
GU320X24x2-301.
BTW if you request PDFs of their modules you get
entered into a draw for some nice chinaware.:D
That's right, Noritake also make chinaware. My
Mom talks about them. I guess they also make VFDs
because they're good at making glass?
Just a silly thing, doesn't affect operation and
it's low-priority, but it's obviously seriously
outdated information. The "Character set for the
display hardware (GIF)" is from the same document too.
I'll look around the bug section and file a
lowest-priority bug, although it's not a bug per
se. Still, if the information is to be included
it should be current so it can actually apply to
the hardware used. Otherwise it should be
removed, although it's nice to see it as it fits
with Slim's open concept.
