It definitely has big potential as a streamer box, both Audio and Video. On the video side apparently XBMC will be supported so no worries there. For Audio/Squeezebox use there is no display (except via TV) but with the option to use a smartphone or tablet as a controller, it's not a big drawback.
It's not clear if it will support the Google Play store but as it's essentially an Android box it should be quite easy to get something like Squeeze Player to work on it with a bit of 'sideloading'. In a similar manner it should also be able to support native Android apps for audio streaming services so that would futureproof against the inevitable loss of mysqueezebox.com which will likely take the ability to listen to a lot of streamed stuff with it. Seems to be quite low power consumption too - one review of the early dev units stated about 5W when playing a game so should be even lower for a less CPU intensive task. There is a fan but supposedly it is not very noisy. How that translates to the context of music listening is unsure. Maybe it won't kick in if there isn't a lot of processor activity or possibly the user could swap in their own, quieter, fan unit. US price will be $99 but I wouldn't bet on a straightforward conversion to the equivalent pound or Euro pricing. Probably closer to £99 on release in the UK I would think. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ slimfast's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=29669 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=98413
