I will use the bugs.slimdevices.com in the future. Thanks.

The /Library/StartupItems/Slim does exist. I installed as an admin
user. My account is an admin account. SlimServer does not start
automatically at boot time. Are there any logs I can check to see what
the problem might be? I will try the "Automatically Start When I Log
In" option, or manually start for the time being.

g5:/Library/StartupItems rei$ ls -al

When I toggle the "Automatically Start" popup menu, the system does ask
me to authenticate.
