Sound quality is/has never been affected by the server version ,it not
the server that plays the music it is the players. The whole squeezebox
architechture is such that the server hardware OS and squeezeboxserver
version etc does not matter in this regard .

However i find the latest 7.8 beta very stable , and its more compatible
with the plugins mysqueezebox.com and varius services contains some
fixes for more modern OS.
Worth turning off in >7.6 is the built in dlna/upnp plugin and photo and
media/video scanning. It was concieved to save the now defunct Logitech
Revue google TV thing .
This functionality adds nothing in a squeezebox context ,but as it can
be turned of and not used it does not add any bloat

There is a big jump here LMS is using SQLite instead of MySQL and may be
a bit pickier about tags , if it does not work rigth of a clean install
migth do it .

You can usually upgrade without problem ,but the likelihood that the
upgrade process itselfs fail is greater if you go from a 5 year old
version to todays version
