Has the external hard drive been allocated the same drive letter that it
had on the old computer?

If you right-click one of your "empty" playlists and "open with"
Notepad, you will see they are simple text documents showing the path to
the actual tracks.

e.g. L:\Squeezebox Music\A\America\The Complete Greatest Hits\01 A Horse
With No Name.mp3

The first letter (L) is the drive letter, if the drive the actual music
files are on has been allocated a different letter, you will need to
edit the playlist to match the new drive letter. (and rescan the
playlists in Slimserver).
