Yes. I have two external 2.5" drives that work just fine powered from the WB USB port. (They both have the option of having a PS directly connected to the drive enclosure, but neither need it with the Wandboard. Interestingly, one doesn't run reliably powered from a Pi USB connector, probably due to the voltage drop via the poly fuse, but fine with the WB.) JJZolx wrote: > 2. Yes, you can split power from the wall wart. You should be using a 2.5A-3A unit if you want to run a SATA drive and the QUAD from the same 5V PS. (Don't try this with a 1A power supply.) Picture below shows one of my QUADs with the SATA power connector soldered to the rear of the power inlet on the WB carrier board. [image: http://www.communitysqueeze.org/files/wb_sata.jpg] NB. And as Andrew said, stay away from 3.5" drives. (Unless you know they are not using the 12V rail to power the spindle motor. Obviously, you don't have a 12V rail. ;)) ------------------------------------------------------------------------ JackOfAll's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=3069 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=97881 _______________________________________________ discuss mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
