I think this point is absolutely right. I use Spotify and last.fm as a means to listen to new music - things I like I will buy, either in physical format or as download. It's a cash-flow to artists and labels that tends to be overlooked in discussions about the Spotify business model and the revenue flow from Spotify to artists (I've been a Premium Spotify subscriber for nearly a year now, and it's increased my purchase rate of new music considerably).
