Please try restarting the server (or have a look at the server logs before that). This sounds like an old problem with the server's artwork rescaler sometimes stopping to work. I don't remember what exactly caused it, the latest LMS versions don't have the issue anymore, I think. Maybe the artwork cache on the server grew too big or you don't have write permission anymore.
