I have never had a problem with compilations appearing property in the music list. I use mp3tag and make sure the song is tagged with the same "album" name as the other songs in the compilation. I do not use Album Artist and always list the song as a compilation with the compilation tag. All compilation albums are stored in the "Various Artists" folder.
