That will work so long as you can create a network share on the HTPC. You can either point your Music Directory at the share, or else create a link to the same share somewhere within the music directory tree. I don't think it should cause any problems, but it may depend a little on the HTPC and how fast it is and what else it's being asked to do while SlimServer is accessing the files stored there. This isn't unlike my setup, where my PC is running SlimServer and the files are stored on a network attached storage device.
