Well, that's a common misunderstanding WRT lossless vs. lossy, right? I mean: lossless tracks are not supposed to sound _better_, they are supposed to be closer to the original recordings. To the contrary, lossy codecs have been developed by using methodology picking the encodings that sounded best to test listeners (at least mp3, but I believe for ogg and AAC they also ran listening tests). So having a lossy album/track sound better isn't really unexpected.
