I think there is an error in that article, as there is others places as well when the technical part of Tidal is discussed. It says the implementation has to be in the DAC. That is not the only way to implement MQA as far as I have understood this. It could be done there. But it can of cause also be done in the player/streamer. MQA is SW based, so there should be no need of a new DAC, if your streamer can be upgraded. But you can of cause purchase a new DAC as an (expensive) solution. Or maybe get a payed? firmware upgrade. Will be interesting to see what other companies choose to do. (Sonos, Blue Sound, Aralic, EC, and more). An other interesting thing is what type if MAQ we will get. I thaught there only exist 24/96. But now the article takling about MQA 44,1 is better than PCM 24/96. I'm confused. We will just be pasient and wait to understand if there will be different MQA qualities as well. Can we hope for Triode to write a codec ? Personally I do not mind to pay for MQA on my Touch, if that is what will make it happen. Tidal hi-fi on a good stereo is much better that CD.
