As far as I can tell, on my Mac running SlimServer actually prevents Energy Saver from putting the machine to sleep. I can do so manually from a menu or from the command-line. The only reason I know about the command-line is that I have a script to send the machine to sleep, and I can use execute.pm to put it to sleep from the SB.
