Something like this killed the Last.fm streaming service, IIRC. Last.fm was my most listened-to service on the Squeezebox and enabled me to discover much fantastic music, which lead to me buying quite a few albums I would otherwise never even have heard of.
The greed of the corporates knows no bounds, it would seem.
