By base install, I mean installing Windows (SP whatever, SP2 is probably best), and then all the latest updates from M$oft.
Then, its product to update key hardware drivers to the best available. Install your A/V software as desired last. If you have wired ethernet, use it instead of your wirelsss card to test out your stability. There are far fewer components. And if you do use your wireless, be sure you have all the latest Windows patches. Like PFarrel, I too am a *nix guy.
